What if you felt completely comfortable speaking on video? How would it feel to no longer have the fear of speaking on camera? This is exactly where I was a few short months ago, until I found a way to get over the fear. In this article I will share with you about how the power of connecting with your audience using video content is the key to connection.
As a small business owner, you probably feel like you’re trying to be everything at once — marketer, salesperson, customer service rep, all while running the core of your business. I understand, because I was right there too. I remember those days when every dollar spent on marketing felt like a risk, when the thought of putting myself out there on video felt too personal, too raw. But what I didn’t realize then — and what I’m here to share with you now — is the tremendous power of connecting with your audience through video content. It’s not about vanity or superficial glitz; it’s about building a bridge, creating trust, and helping people feel seen and understood.
One of the biggest challenges I faced early on was making my business feel relatable to potential clients. I was passionate, I had knowledge to share, and I knew I could help people. But without a way to connect deeply with my audience, I struggled to make that clear. Then, I turned to video. I remember my first hesitant steps, standing in front of a camera, trying to communicate my passion and values — but it changed everything. Suddenly, I wasn’t just a name on a website or a logo; I was a real person with real solutions to offer. That’s what video content can do for you, too.
People crave connection, and that’s exactly what video provides. Think about the brands and businesses you feel drawn to. Chances are, you feel connected to them because you’ve seen a face, heard a story, or felt an emotion through their content. Video gives you the power to convey emotions in ways that text alone can’t match. It allows your audience to see your genuine enthusiasm, hear your sincerity, and trust that you’re not just another business looking for a sale — you’re someone who understands their struggles, someone who’s been there and found solutions that work.
The beauty of video content is that it brings a human touch back into business. In a world where we’re all saturated with faceless, impersonal ads, a video of you sharing your story, your passion, and how you can help stands out. It reminds your audience that behind every product or service is a real person who cares about their problems and is committed to offering a solution. You’ve been where they are — overwhelmed, uncertain, and maybe even skeptical of all the marketing advice out there. But you’ve found a way to break through, and that breakthrough is what you’re offering them.
Right now, if you’re hesitating to take that step, consider this: there are people out there who need to hear from you specifically. They need to know that they’re not alone in their struggles, and that someone with real solutions is just a click away. Video content is your chance to make them feel that connection and give them the confidence to trust in your business. With each video, you’re not just marketing; you’re creating an opportunity for someone to believe in their ability to change their situation and find success.
Taking action now — creating even a short, authentic video — can be a game-changer for your business. Start small, share your journey, your challenges, and your victories. Show your audience that you’re more than just a business owner; you’re a guide who understands where they are and knows how to help them get where they want to be.
Video content is a powerful tool that can transform your business and bring you closer to your audience. It’s time to let them see the real you and offer them the reassurance they need to take the next step with you. Trust me, I’ve been there — and I’m here to tell you, it’s worth it.
Action Step
Now you can see that connecting with your audience through video is important, so let’s take action on getting more comfortable doing so.
Our first step is to just do it. I want you to come up with a topic to discuss for a one minute video. If it helps, you can write down the content so you have a script to follow. Next, take out your phone and hit record. Start to deliver your topic and go all the way through until you are done. Don’t worry about mistakes, just record the topic and when you’re done hit stop.
Great job! Now you can use the content or trash it, whatever you prefer. Your next step is to do this over and over again until you have a piece of content you can use to promote your business. Then post it! You should do this several times a day for 30 consecutive days. By the time you reach day 30, you will be more comfortable and grown through your positive actions.
